“ Walk in Someone’s Shoes”

Sharing Fostering Experiences Through ART

Kidz Konnect is a group for children who foster to connect with each other, receive support and most importantly to have fun.

“Walk in Our Shoes” brought our Kidz Konnect group together with every member of their family, including children who are being cared for, as we wanted this art project to capture the essence of fostering which is ‘family’.

This is an audio-visual art piece created by foster families and guided by Magda Lukas, artist, about the fostering journeys of these families, sharing their experiences through visual imagery and story capture for an audio-visual,  touch sensitive wall.

We chose to use a medium that was fun, accessible, and interactive for all ages to engage a wide audience, creating 1.3 metre drawing.

When the user touches one of the golden circles, they can hear the audio recordings taken during the art workshop.  Background noise can be heard in these drawings to maintain informal engagement.

When the users touches one of the golden circles on some of the drawings, they are able to hear the audio recordings taken during art workshop. Some of them have quite noisy backgrounds because they wanted the overall engagement to be informal.

This art project will be displayed during Bord Bia Bloom Gardening Festival in the Pheonix Park 2024 - June Bank Holiday Weekend and St. Peters Church, Cork City from 18th till 25th of June.
